Ohm Shanti Ohm

Just another day in paradise...

Girish is bored after dinner...Even though he lacks the Karan exuberance of "We must do something lo!!", he still desires sommmme stimulation...And I know he'll nod his head as he reads this, he prefers mental stimulation more than err..eh..physical stimulation...

And what better mental stimulation than random chit chats about assorted topics...Tonight's conversation started with him politely asking me to go hang myself using the electric wires running above my head, as i stood in front of my house gate..

And thus was triggered a physics related discussion!

If a man (example me...we spent some time laughing at this a bit :D ) were to hang by an electric wire with both his hands, suspended in mid air, he isn't grounded and he won't die...But why won't current pass from the wire, thru his left hand, thru his body, thru his right hand and then back onto the wires again? A small sketch to illustrate...

Well, I'll let u guys figure out the answer to this one (Girish Physics knowledge mele respect banthu :O)

Well, the gist is that some current does indeed flow thru us, which is not too much to affect us, but might efficiently render an innocent crow quite mad :D :D

And then we went into whether bats are nothing but crows sitting on electric wires and experiencing a shocking moment in their lives...Might not just be conjecture...

At roughly 10.39 we concluded that it must be the magnetic field, around the electric wire right above my head, which was causing all these brilliant theories to be propounded...and we ended the fun :D

The current wont pass through you because the wire has lower resistance than your body.

Organic materials have less electrical conductivity than the alloy used for the overhead electrical cable...

sarina?

How is the title " OM Shanti OM " related to the content antha artha agthilla. Mind any explanation? Hogli bidu. Coming back to the answer to the question, nanage seriously gotthilla. I was bad @ Electrostatics and Thermodynamics.

@ Pradeep :

You're right...The body acts a path of high resistance and hence current chooses the path of least resistance (the copper wire between the hands)

@ Ashwin :

Ohm is the unit to measure resistance alva? Adikke sumne use maadbitte...No relevance whatsoever other than this
