wedding truisms

The brother of the groom (whose viewpoint this blog is, so the readers will accept and accommodate the biased post) is one of the most neglected and under-rated of participants in the wedding. If the concept of "roles" (as is prevalent in western weddings) is applied here, I'd rank somewhere, if I may use the simile, between a chai boy and a makeup man. Please note that I'm very particular about the sex here...The sister of the groom or the brother of the bride still have quite significant roles, if I'm not mistaken...

And lets also specify, shall we, that I'm talking about the own brother of the groom(no cousin wousin business here)...While the groom's mother's father's sister's is called on and bestowed with goodies and gifts and are asked to participate in rituals, the brother of the groom is :

* supposed to handle everything (hahahahaaaahahahahha very funny one that one!!)
* required to do the MOST fake talk and smilings and enquirings of the guests at the wedding.
* blamed for having only 2 hands at 12 am, post a non-stop day in the trenches
* asked by two aunts alternatively to have and not have lunch, which prolongs actual lunch time to 3 pm (that was AHWESOME!!)
* (The cake taker) repeatedly reminded of his eligibility, singularity and bachelorhood by the ohmygodsomebodyshootthisperson's remark of "line clear aithu" ("the line is clear for you to get betrothed, my dear child, as your brother has fulfilled his purpose in your life by getting married!!!") BTW, almost everybody who meets brother of groom will say this, as a rule...
* Shucks too bored to think of others...

:)

Catirical Synicism apart, my bro got MARRIED!!! Freakkin! Our family now expands, to become a five member clique!! Mere words shall not reveal my excitement, but I shall try!! Yay :D

Congrats to your brother :)

Well, I deliberately did not use the "Line clear" term - instead, I carefully chose to use "opening up of opportunities"... a bit more refined, shall I say ;)
