Orkut is very stringent, I knew....What with its apparently oh so funny donut msgs n all, it also gave out the impression of it being buggy/crazy sometimes....But this just takes the cake....

There are some automated pieces of code called "bots" that regularly try sending requests to create accounts, login to accounts, etc. So, this method of making people type in a string to confirm usually trap the bots. This is for security of personal information...
Its called a CAPTCHA - short for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart..
